Deaths related to drug poisoning in England and Wales in 2017 shows rise in fentanyl deaths
The Office for National Statistics has published the 2017 figures for deaths related to drug poisoning in England and Wales this week. The figures show that deaths from fentanyl have risen.
PHE expert reference group for the prescribed medicines review
PHE’s Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco and Justice Division (Health Improvement Directorate) has established a project team to implement the Prescribed Medicines Review, and the expert reference group’s primary role will be to inform and guide it.

Prescribed medicines that may cause dependence or withdrawal
A review of the evidence on problems with some prescription medicines, including opioid pain medications, was announced in January 2018 on: best available evidence for prevalence and prescribing patterns; nature of dependence/discontinuation syndrome among some people; effective prevention and treatment of dependence for each drug category.
